Additional comments
The Institute of Plant Protection is a leading scientific and methodological center coordinating scientific research on the protection of agricultural plants from pests, diseases and weeds in Belarus.
The main objective of the Institute is to increase the efficiency of plant protection. The efforts of the Institute's scientists are aimed at reducing the harmfulness of phytophages, phytopathogens, and weeds in agrocenoses and obtaining high-quality yields of agricultural crops.
The priority areas of the Institute's activities are:
- Development of scientific criteria for the production and rational use of effective, environmentally friendly means of protecting agricultural crops from harmful organisms based on the use of local raw materials and strains of microorganisms.
- Development and implementation of technologies for the protection of grain, potatoes, fodder, industrial, vegetable and fruit crops from pests, diseases and weeds.
- Development of methodological foundations for the environmental safety of plant protection systems.
- Development of information technologies in plant protection.
- Improvement of the methodological foundations of phytosanitary monitoring of agricultural crops and forecasting the development of harmful organisms.
- Ecological and economic substantiation of the formation of a range of modern chemical and biological means of protection; development of technologies for their application.
- Search and identification of sources of crop resistance to dominant diseases.
- Development of methods for applying pesticides.
In order to improve integrated systems for protecting agricultural crops from harmful organisms, the technology of using preparations to combat pests, plant diseases, and weeds, and determine residual quantities of pesticides, the Institute cooperates with research organizations in the near and far abroad - Poland, Lithuania, Moldova, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Russia, etc.
Products and services:
- Conducting exploratory research, development, as well as scientific and industrial testing in relation to specific natural and climatic zones of the republic of environmentally safe techniques, methods, and systems for protecting plants from pests, diseases, and weeds.
- Development of recommendations for collective farms, state farms, tenants, farmers, cooperatives on integrated systems for protecting agricultural crops from pests, diseases, and weeds using agrotechnical, biological, chemical, and other methods of plant protection.
- Development of progressive technologies for protecting agricultural crops from pests, diseases, and weeds that meet the requirements of high-intensity agricultural production, issuing relevant process maps and regulatory materials.
- Conducting biological tests of preparations for their subsequent registration in the republic. You can find the rules for registration of preparations in the Republic of Belarus on the website of the State Institution "Main State Inspectorate for Seed Production, Quarantine and Plant Protection" here.
- Development of options for technological solutions in protecting potatoes from pests, diseases, and weeds, testing potatoes for disease infestation in obvious and latent forms, assessing variety samples for resistance to cancer and golden potato nematode.
- Development and adaptation of methods for analyzing residual quantities of new and promising pesticides.
- Determination of the content of pesticides in agricultural products.
