Summary
The Joint Institute for Nuclear and Energy Research offers the results of experimental and computational studies of the criticality of breeding systems and decontamination polymer compositions for "dry" decontamination to distributors under an agreement on scientific and technical cooperation.
Description
Obtained experimental data on the criticality of uranium-containing breeding systems with a fast, intermediate and thermal neutron spectrum and verification of mathematical codes for calculating the neutron-physical characteristics of nuclear reactors using the results obtained. A number of uranium-containing neutron multiplying systems (critical assemblies) were developed, created and studied at the critical stand "Hyacinth": uniform uranium critical assemblies with a hexagonal lattice of fuel rods with promising nuclear fuel based on uranium zirconium carbonitride with an enrichment of 19.75% in uranium-235; uranium hydride zirconium critical assemblies with fuel assemblies with fuel elements with uranium dioxide of 21% enrichment with a hydride zirconium moderator and hydride zirconium-steel and beryllium-steel reflectors; critical assemblies without a moderator with fuel assemblies with fuel elements based on metallic uranium and uranium dioxide with enrichment of 90 and 36% in uranium-235, respectively, with a beryllium-steel reflector. The main neutron-physical characteristics of critical assemblies were measured, their computational estimates were performed, and the possibilities of using the obtained experimental data as a benchmark of criticality data for verification of computational codes and nuclear data libraries were determined.

The following international organizations are interested in cooperation on this topic: NIKIET named after N. A. Dollezhal JSC, Krasnaya Zvezda JSC and FSUE NII NPO LUCH and other organizations of the State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom, Argonne and Aydakh US Department of Energy National Laboratories, Joseph-Stephan Institute (Slovenia), Seoul National University, International Atomic Energy Agency, Atomic Energy Agency of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (France), etc.
Advantages and Innovations
Computational studies of the criticality of breeding systems contribute to the creation and development in the Republic of Belarus of a modern, unique experimental and design base in the field of nuclear reactors.

Additional comments
International cooperation activities at the Institute include works performed under the nine projects of the International Science and Technology Center (ISTC), contracts with the IAEA and leading research centers of Western Europe and the USA, as well as under contracts with institutes in Czech Republic, Poland, Japan and Germany. Joint work is in process with multiple research centers in Russia and Ukraine. Over a period of several years, the Institute’s scientists have conducted experimental research at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (Dubna, Russia).

The Institute has long-established scientific links with researchers from Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Germany, Spain, France, Italy, Hungary, Sweden, USA, Russia, Poland, China and Japan.
