Summary
A.V.Luikov Heat and Mass Transfer Institute of the NAS of Belarus offers consumers the technology of two-stage combustion of solid biofuels in a fluidized bed under a commercial agreements with technical assistance, equipment for burning solid biofuels under a manufacturing agreement.
Description
The development of technologies and boiler equipment with fluidized bed furnaces is considered one of the most promising areas in modern thermal power engineering. The fluidized bed, which is a randomly circulating mixture of solid fuel and inert non-combustible materials, ensures stable combustion in a fairly narrow, stable and controlled temperature range.

A.V.Luikov Heat and Mass Transfer Institute of the NAS of Belarus has developed a technology for two-stage combustion of solid biofuels in a fluidized bed, which combines layered fuel combustion with vortex afterburning of fine fractions and gaseous combustible products in the above-layer space.

The technology allows maximum use of the energy potential of the fuel and at the same time minimizes the formation of harmful gaseous emissions. Adjustment of technological parameters allows you to burn almost any materials of organic origin, including household waste.

The technology makes it possible to implement a furnace process with a higher thermal stress of the furnace volume, significantly reduce the excess air coefficient, increase the efficiency of the boiler and reduce the concentration of carbon monoxide in the exhaust gases compared to direct-flow stratified combustion furnaces.

The method of two-stage combustion with a vortex organization of the above-layer space of solid biofuels can significantly reduce the excess air coefficient (up to α = 1.15-1.25) and reduce the concentration of carbon monoxide (CO) in the exhaust gases compared to direct-flow stratified combustion furnaces without flow swirling.

The geometrical parameters of the furnace (relative pinch diameter dout/D, free area of the nozzles), furnace operation modes (power, ratio of bottom and tangential blast) are optimized, at which the concentration of nitrogen oxides does not exceed 500 mg/nm3, and carbon monoxide 50÷500 mg/ nm3 (at α = 1.2).

Technology characteristics:
excess air ratio 1,15-1,25
efficiency coefficient до 92 %
metal consumption reduction by 20…30 %

The main advantages of the developed technology are:
- high-quality vortex mixture formation of volatile products of incomplete combustion with secondary air supplied tangentially to the above-layer space;
- a significant reduction in the entrainment of fine particles due to the action of centrifugal force;
- a noticeable decrease in the above-layer space and, consequently, the dimensions of the furnace.

Scope: furnace equipment.

The Institute offers partners:
* as part of a commercial agreement with technical assistance, the acquisition of technology of two-stage combustion of solid biofuels in a fluidized bed;
* equipment for combustion of solid biofuels under a manufacturing agreement.
Advantages and Innovations
The technology of two-stage combustion of solid biofuels can be used to create boilers of small and medium power (≤ 9.0 MW) for burning solid biofuels (wood and household waste, milled peat, pellets from agricultural waste, bedding and manure, activated sludge) of high humidity (up to 55-60%).

The content of CO and NOx in the exhaust gases is significantly lower than the requirements of regulatory documents.

Comments regarding stage of development
A prototype of a cyclone-layer furnace has been created. A water boiler with a capacity of 2 MW is successfully operated in the Brest housing and communal services.

A working prototype of the furnace was presented as part of the Belarusian Industrial Forum 2018.
