Description
Forage crop - Silphium perforifolia, cultivar "First Belorussky."
The root system is robust, consisting of a thickened taproot and numerous lateral roots, penetrating the soil to a depth of 1.5-2 m. The stem is erect, succulent, tetrahedral, hollow, well-foliated, and 1.8-4.0 m tall. The leaves are oblong-elliptical, pointed, serrated, medium-stiff, oppositely arranged on the stem, large, up to 30-35 cm long and up to 15-25 cm wide. Leaves account for 55-70% of the total green mass. The inflorescence is a head, 3-8 cm in size. The flowers are bright yellow. The fruit is an oblong-cordate, flattened achene, brown in color. The weight of 1,000 seeds is 18-24 g. The green fodder yield can be 1.5-2 times higher than other forage crops, ranging from 60-90 t/ha depending on growing conditions. In terms of forage yield, it exceeds alfalfa by 1.4 times and annual grasses by 2 times.
Seed yield is 300-800 kg/ha.
