Summary
A.V.Luikov Heat and Mass Transfer Institute of the NAS of Belarus offers consumers a aerodynamic devices to increase the cooling tower cooling capacity under a commercial agreements with technical assistance and is looking for partners to conclude a technical cooperation agreement.
Description
A cooling tower is a structure designed for air cooling of a large amount of water. The operation of evaporative cooling towers is based on the transfer of heat fr om a liquid (water) to atmospheric air during direct contact of the media - during cooling of water and its surface evaporation. In cooling towers, aerodynamic devices are used, on which the efficiency of its operation depends.

A.V.Luikov Heat and Mass Transfer Institute of the NAS of Belarus has developed aerodynamic devices for increase the cooling capacity of tower cooling towers: aerodynamic swirler, ventilation window with control devices, control mechanism for horizontal winter louvre devices, and a forced air supply module.

Aerodynamic swirler
image

The aerodynamic swirler ensures the swirl of the air entering the undergrowth space of the cooling tower, which makes it possible to intensify the processes of heat and mass transfer inside the cooling tower, improve the aerodynamics of the cooling incoming air flows and provide an additional decrease in the temperature of the circulating water coming from the station turbine condenser by several degrees, depending on the operating mode turbines and climatic conditions.

Ventilation window with control devices
image

The ventilation window with control devices is designed to optimize the internal aerodynamics of the cooling tower by removing the most heated part of the air flow saturated with water vapor through the created ventilation window. Original control devices are installed inside the window, which direct warm and moisture-saturated air from the central zone to the periphery of the undergrowth space, wh ere it, mixing with colder and drier air, increases draft in this part of the cooling tower. This makes it possible to intensify the process of evaporative cooling and further reduce the temperature of the circulating water.

Control mechanism for horizontal winter louvre devices
image

The control mechanism for horizontal winter louver devices is a new kinematic scheme for controlling winter rotary shutters of a louver device, placing them at a given angle to the horizon. The development improves the aerodynamics of the incoming air flow in the upper part of the air inlet windows, allows you to eliminate the stagnant zones existing there and increase the speed and "range" of the incoming air flow.

Forced air supply module
forced-air-supply-module

The module is the control element for the cooling capacity of an evaporative cooling tower that optimally combines natural (C) and additional forced (B) cooling tower draft. Cooling air is forced into the central zone (A) of the cooling tower, and its flow rate is maintained at 40-80% of the total air flow.

Scope: thermal power plant, thermal power plant, nuclear power plant.

The Institute offers partners:
* within the framework of a commercial agreements with technical assistance, the acquisition of aerodynamic devices to improve the cooling tower cooling capacity;
* within the framework of a technical cooperation agreement, the joint development of the technology for improve the cooling tower cooling capacity.

Advantages and Innovations
The developed technological proposals for the modernization of cooling towers make it possible to eliminate the gap between the installed and available capacity of thermal power plants in the most intense summer period, contribute to an additional decrease in the temperature of the circulating water to 3°C, and allow saving 1500 tons of reference fuel on a cooling tower with an irrigation area of 3000 m2. for the season.

Modernization does not require stopping the operation of cooling towers and pays for itself within two seasons of operation.
