Summary
The Polessian Institute of Plant Growing offers consumers the Daryan corn variety for the production of their own hybrid corn seeds under a license agreement, seed material under a manufacturing agreement, and is looking for partners interested in a distribution services agreement.
Description
Morphological features: Plants in the period of milk ripeness of grain are of medium height (250.0-274.9 cm). The stem is straight or very slightly curved. Anthocyanin coloration of the internodes of the stem and the leaf sheath above the upper ear is absent or very weak, aerial roots are of medium intensity. Leaves are green, slightly curved, waviness is absent or very weak. The flowering time of the panicle is average. Anthocyanin coloration of the bases of the panicle glumes is absent or very weak, spikelet glumes, anthers and silk is weak. Lateral branches of the panicle at the end of flowering are long, the curvature varies from absent to slightly curved, arranged at an average angle to the main axis, their number is small. The upper ear is conical-cylindrical in shape, medium in size, on a stalk of medium length. Anthocyanin coloration of the cob scales is absent or very weak and of medium intensity in a ratio of 1:1. The grain is of an intermediate type, the upper and lower parts of the grain are yellow-orange.

Advantages and Innovations
Three-line, mid-early hybrid. Intended for growing for silage. For the 2019-2021 testing years, the average dry matter yield was 211 c/ha, the maximum - 285 c/ha was obtained at the State Agricultural Institution "Nesvizhskaya SS" in 2019.
The average dry matter content in green mass is 32.7%. The protein content in dry matter of green mass is 7.49%, the protein yield per hectare is 11.5 c. According to the applicant, the hybrid is resistant to bladder smut and loose smut.

Additional comments
The Institute is one of the leading institutes in the Republic of Belarus in the selection of corn and sunflower, it is engaged in the creation of varieties of annual and perennial forage grasses using traditional breeding methods, reproduction and obtaining original seeds. Particular attention is paid to the issues of optimization of technologies for the cultivation of grain, legumes, corn, sunflower, annual and perennial forage grasses in specific soil and climatic zones of the Polesie zone.
The main areas of scientific and practical activity of the enterprise "Polessian Institute of Plant Growing" are the introduction of new competitive varieties and hybrids of agricultural crops in the agro-industrial complex of the Republic of Belarus and the development of scientifically sound and economically justified technologies for their cultivation, as well as:
- Creation of productive, high-quality varieties and hybrids of corn, sunflower, perennial grasses, grain and vegetable crops using traditional breeding methods.
- Improvement of farming systems taking into account specific soil and climatic zones of the region, ensuring the receipt of an economically viable crop yield, preservation of soil fertility.
- Improvement of existing and development of new economically viable technologies for growing and harvesting forage crops.
- Optimization of crop production technologies that allow for the maximum realization of the genetic potential of plants in specific soil and climatic zones of the Gomel region while minimizing resource costs.
The main areas of applied and fundamental research in the Republican Scientific Subsidiary Unitary Enterprise "Polessian Institute of Plant Growing" are carried out at the expense of the republican budget, as well as at its own expense and on a contractual basis with other interested organizations.
Breeding areas.
- breeding of universal, grain and silage corn hybrids;
- breeding of sunflower hybrids;
- selection of annual and perennial forage crops (sorghum crops, alfalfa, canary grass, green-cut rye, silphium);
- selection of grain and leguminous crops (lake wheat, lake barley, peas, soybeans).
Preservation and study of the genetic fund.
Research is carried out under the coordination of the National Bank of Plant Genetic Resources of the Republic of Belarus, through which the exchange of collection material is carried out. Direct links have been established with VIR.
The Republican Scientific Subsidiary Unitary Enterprise "Polessian Institute of Plant Growing" is the curator of national collections of corn, sunflower, forage crops, perennial grasses.
