Summary
The Jount Institute of Mechanical Engineering offers customers hypersonic metallization technology under a commercial agreement with technical assistace and equipment, including post-warranty service and possible further improvement of the technological process under a manufacturing agreement, and is also looking for partners to conclude a technical cooperation agreement, including the provision of services for applying coatings to parts using hypersonic metallization technology.
Description
Technological processes and equipment (GM-4 unit) for restoration, strengthening and protection of surfaces of rapidly wearing machine parts and structural elements. Formation of wear-resistant chromium-containing coatings instead of galvanic chromium plating. Application of tribotechnical coatings in the manufacture of bimetallic plain bearings. Application of conductive coatings on ceramics and polymers. Protection of polymer housings of electronic equipment from the effects of powerful electromagnetic fields. Application of bactericidal and decorative coatings. Protection of metal structure elements of port facilities and offshore platforms in the oil and gas industry, power transmission line supports, construction and installation structures, food industry equipment.

In the CIS countries, more than 100 units of equipment for applying protective coatings from powder and wire materials using gas-thermal methods are purchased annually, with imported equipment accounting for more than 85%. Foreign analogues use applied materials produced only abroad for operation.

Hypersonic metallization technology differs from traditional electrometallization by using a continuous energy source to heat the gas that sprays the wires melted in the arc. The gas, heated to a temperature of about 2000 °C, flows out through a Laval nozzle and acquires a speed of 900...1300 m/s, which allows the particles of the sprayed material to accelerate to speeds of more than 400 m/s.

Purpose:
- for restoration (strengthening) of worn cylindrical surfaces (brake drums, shaft journals, axles, working in pairs with rolling (sliding) bearings)
- for restoration (strengthening) of flat parts (guides, friction disks)
- protection against corrosion of parts, elements of structures and buildings
- production of bimetallic "steel - bronze" pistons instead of solid bronze ones.

Equipment is manufactured, and a number of technological processes for applying wear-resistant, corrosion-resistant, antifriction coatings to machine parts and structural elements have been developed.

Recommendations for the organization of specialized areas have been developed.

Information on the technology and equipment for hypersonic metallization is contained in "Catalog of Products and Services of the Joint Institute of Mechanical Engineering" 2018 , p.14.

Information also is posted in the Album of promising developments of the NAS of Belarus organizations for the real sector of the economy (2023), p. 88-90. (in Russian)

Advantages and Innovations
Obtaining the effect of "closing through porosity" at thicknesses of about 75-80 μm;
- increased adhesion strength (up to 60 MPa), withstanding high contact loads under impact loading;
- minimal oxidation of the sprayed material and burnout of alloying elements;
- flight speed of sprayed particles 400-500 m/s;
- productivity when spraying steels up to 18 kg/h.

The most economical method in the world, the cost of the process of applying 1 kg of coating on the GM-4 unit excluding the cost of the applied material is 5-10 US dollars (reducing operating costs by 2-5 times compared to foreign high-speed spraying units).

The developed technological processes are environmentally friendly and meet the requirements for technical means of welding production.

For applying coatings by the hypersonic metallization method, the use of cylinder oxygen is not required; the heating of the melting wires is carried out in an electric arc; dispersion of the molten material and acceleration of the formed particles occurs under the action of a jet of combustion products of a propane-air flame coming out of the combustion chamber equipped with a Laval nozzle, while the flow speed reaches 1500 m/s. To operate the equipment, a welding power source, a propane cylinder and an air compressor are required, which makes it possible to carry out the restoration process directly at the place of operation of the parts. This is especially important when applying coatings to large-sized products - the hulls of sea and river vessels, containers for the transportation of radioactive waste, diffusion screw devices for sugar production, etc.
