The planetary-pinion gearboxes of the Instrument Manufacturing Plant Optron utilize cycloidal (cycloidal, planetary-pinion, or pinion) gearboxes—a type of mechanical transmission in which torque reduction occurs not through gear engagement, but through the complex plane-parallel rotation of cycloidal disks.
