Launched by the EPO Observatory on Patents and Technology in collaboration with ASTP, Europe's knowledge transfer association, and Fraunhofer ISI, this study provides the first comprehensive Europe-wide assessment of technology transfer offices (TTOs). Combining EPO patent data, analysis of academic inventions, survey data from more than 800 European TTOs and interviews with technology-transfer professionals across Europe, it explores how Europe can better translate research excellence into innovation, growth and competitiveness. The findings identify the need for continued investment in TTO capacity and highlight opportunities to strengthen technology transfer through greater collaboration, shared expertise and stronger innovation tools and networks across Europe.
