Summary
The Centre for Identification Systems offers barcode verification services to consumers, assessing the legality and quality of barcodes under an outsourcing agreement and is looking for partners interested in a distribution services agreement.
Description
Barcode verification: assessing the validity and quality of a barcode.

Verification is the comparison of an activity, process, or product with relevant requirements or specifications, confirming compliance through inspection, and providing objective evidence that the specified requirements have been met.

Note: Verification can also be defined as actions involving analysis, study, testing, control, independent assessment, or other means of establishing and documenting the conformity of items, processes, services, or documents with regulated requirements.

Symbol verification is a technical verification procedure by which a symbol is measured to determine its compliance with the specification requirements for that symbol.

The primary function of a barcode symbol is to convey data from its point of origin to the point of data collection. Therefore, a barcode is a critical link in the data chain of any application. If a barcode fails to fulfill its purpose, the entire chain collapses. For trading partners, an unscannable barcode symbol is a more serious problem than the absence of a barcode at all. Barcode symbol verification is a useful tool for improving the efficiency of quality control procedures aimed at ensuring the correct reading of barcode symbols throughout the supply chain.

The purpose of verification is to verify the symbol's ability to perform its intended function. This is achieved through two main objectives:

1. To enable the symbol manufacturer to measure the symbols produced and use the results for production control.

2. To predict the potential scanning efficiency of the symbol.

Information about barcode verification is available on the "Centre for Identification Systems" website here (in Russian). You can also use the feedback form to evaluate the quality of services provided by the testing laboratory.
Advantages and Innovations
Verification helps the symbol producer and the symbol recipient establish a mutually satisfactory level of symbol quality, allowing them to agree on the acceptability or otherwise of the symbol.

Verification accomplishes this by measuring the symbol's parameters and assessing how closely these parameters approach the "ideal" values described in the specification, as well as by assessing how well these parameters meet specific characteristics related to the symbol's printing and reading performance. Upon completion of verification, the symbol is assigned a quality level rating, which correlates with the symbol's likely scanning performance.
